Watch this amazing video presenting Ishikawa Komuro Lab's high-speed robot hand. It is just imppossible to imagine it could be possible and nevertheless it is performing impressive acts of dexterity and skillful manipulation. It already does dribbling, throwing, grasping and soon magic tricks I bet. It already seems magic indeed, especially the throwing of the mobile and regrasping. How crazy is this ?

Magic Tuesday : Julian Varas From Chile

This tuesday I want to dedicate this post to my friend Julian from Chile whom I had the chance to meet at the Cariatides a month ago. We had the chance to go for Street magic sessions in Paris and at the River's King Péniche on the Seine.


Julian has been studiing in a medical school for seven years and is taking some vacations to do a tour of Europe before he chooses his specialization for next year. We have met because we found out that we had the same objectives as magicians : to entertain and have fun with people. The view, techniques and ease he had on magic from his culture and experience was really amazing.

Magic and Advertising : VolksWagen

VolksWagen continue their support of Independent Cinemas. Ad agency DDB worked with Moxie Pictures and director Seth Gordon (King of Kong) to find three stories that testify the power of film. Here is one of them where a young magician tells you why magic IS everywhere and how he sees in his daily life.

I had already posted 3 commercials before from Samsung that makes Internet magic ads that are clearly clever and using all the materials and the interaction that you can have on internet in order to deliver their message.

It is really cool to see that magic is spreading and that more people get interested in this kind of art. It is getting mainstream and the community is becoming larger and larger everyday. In the previous commercials, you will see that there are really a lot of different Magic : XCM, Close up, Stage, Street Magic.

That is why magic has been popularized, because it can be done anywhere with anything. You just have to come up with it and make it happen...

Magic Tuesday : Vintage Trick #9 Alzimmer

Bonjour, aujourd'hui est un jour particulier car c'est mardi.

Et Mardi, c'est Magie !

Comme tous les mardis soir, ça se passe aux Cariatides (Métro Réaumur-Sébastopol ou Châtelet) entre 19h et Minuit. C'est un petit bar sympa, rempli de magiciens et d'habitués, où il est bon de venir boire un verre avec des amis et passer une soirée pleine de magie.

A bon entendeur ...

En attendant, je reposte mes vidéos de magie que j'avais fait à mes débuts. Il faut que je travaille sur d'autres projets de vidéos. Ca fait aussi longtemps que j'y pense mais il faut trouver le temps, avoir la caméra et trouver le bon public. A suivre ...

Cela faisait un moment que j'avais ce projet de me faire des cartes de visite. J'ai imaginé ma carte et il y a encore du boulot mais en attendant il fallait faire quelque chose.

Parachute en Stress et en Slow Motion

Ca y est ! C'est passé ! J'ai réussi à avoir le Brevet B. Alors, je vous explique. Il y a 3 types de sauts en parachute :

- Le saut en tandem : vous êtes harnaché à un moniteur qui lui a un parachute pour 2 personnes, , c'est-à-dire assez grand avec un stabilisateur qu'il sort peu après la sortie de l'avion pour chuter à plat. Ca coute environ 300e avec la vidéo. Cela ne vous donne pas d'accès pour continuer mais peut vraiment vous en donner l'envie.

- Le saut en solo pas-à-pas : La progression traditionnelle qui consiste à sauter à des hauteurs de plus en plus élevées. Les premiers sauts sont des sorties à 1500m avec une sangle qui ouvre le parachute automatiquement. Puis on monte plus haut pour commencer à appréhender la chute. Enfin on peut sauter à 4000m et on est autonome. L'inconvénient est que cette formation prend pas mal de temps.

- le saut en solo "direct" : la PAC, Progression Accompagnée en Chute, qui consiste à faire 6 sauts en solo avec 2 moniteurs qui suivent de très près les faits et gestes de leurs élèves et qui communiquent par signe pendant les sauts pour corriger les erreurs de celui-ci et lui permettre de progresser rapidement et de faire des figures, une fois sous-voile, l'élève est guidé par radio. Il est conseillé de faire un stage d'une semaine pour la PAC pour bien assimiler la théorie et la pratique et être autonome à la fin de la semaine.

Une fois que l'on est apte à sauter seul, il y a d'autres brevets pour valider que l'on a les connaissances requises et l'expérience pour sauter avec d'autres personnes par exemple, ou pour montrer que l'on a conscience de ce que l'on fait et de l'endroit où l'on se trouve. Il est difficile d'analyser la multitude d'informations que notre cerveau nous comunique lorsque l'on est en chute. Il faut aller très vite et bien savoir ce que l'on fait.

Au bout de 30 sauts, il est possible de passer le brevet B. Il faut alors sauter avec un moniteur qui vous filme et qui vous impose un programme pour la validation de votre brevet.

360° (quand j'appuis avec la main)

Une flèche, pour finir, qui permet de se dégager de l'axe de largage des autres parachutistes et de pouvoir libérer le parachute librement.
