Micro Living Helicopters

Imagine an "organism" made out of ... self organizing micro-helicopters.

Let me explain : each helicopter contains small LEDs and act as a smart pixel adapting in real time to spatially synchronize and form an elastic display. That is indeed surreal ! But check it out, it is completely unthinkable until you actually see it with your own eyes !

Flyfire, a project initiated by the SENSEable City Laboratory in collaboration with ARES Lab (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory) aims to transform any ordinary space into a highly immersive and interactive display environment.

Vancouver 2010 : Shaun White Rules

Ca y est ! je l'ai trouvée ... enfin, sur une chaine youtube japonaise mais bon : La vidéo de Shaun White à Vancouver 2010. Il a fait un run excellent et sans défaut. Il a remporté la médaille d'or en half-pipe. Il avait remporté les X Games 2010, il y quelques mois et vous avez la vidéo là.

Dexter Feels Magic In The Air

OK, I bet you all watch a lot of series and let's agree that a serie that has been going on for 4 years and that, finishes at the end of each season and keeps being that good can just NOT be ignored. The pitch : Dexter lives in Miami, he is a forensic police agent and also a serial killer. He chases down people that have not been punished by the justice and makes justice for himself to ease his hunger for blood. But can he remain un-noticed and how can he manage to have a normal life ?

If you already love it or you have never seen an episode, Showtime has released an animated webisode series on its website to follow the serial killer evolving through new adventures : Dexter Early Cuts. Here is the one where Dexter meets a magician and his assistant Cindy Landon ("She is still in one piece ! But not for long ...") :

Je ne sais pas si beaucoup de monde connait cette marque de sac à main : Tous, en tout cas ils emploient les bonnes méthodes pour faire parler d'eux. Les photos sont belles et on en oublierait presque de regarder les sacs à main. Belle opération marketing !

Magic Tuesday : Ventriloquisme

Pour ce Mardi Magie, je vais changer un peu et vous proposer une partie chant et une partie comédie pour 2 ventriloques très différents mais excellents dans leur domaine. Ces vidéos datent maintenant d'un peu moins de 2 ans mais j'ai essayé de vous trouver les 2 meilleures. Je trouve ça vraiment dérangeant et très marrant.

Encore une vidéo en stop motion pleine d'idée et bien marrante, je vous laisse regarder et après vous avez le making-of si ça vous dit d'entrer dans le secret ...

D'habitude il ne faut pas montrer comment c'est réalisé mais je suis certain que vous ne vous disiez pas que c'était fait comme ça. En tout cas, pour ma part, j'ai trouvé ça très intéressant de voir les différents dispositifs mis en oeuvre pour réaliser ces t-shirts et ce film. J'adore aussi le concept. Bravo !

Un temps froid, de la neige, il vaut mieux rester à la maison et se trouver un bon puzzle ou casse-tête pour passer le temps. Et oui, on ne va pas regarder une énième série pour passer le temps. Il est temps de se mettre à quelque chose qui change un peu ... ;-)

Magic Tuesday : Pen Spinning Contest 2010

I used to be kind of bored in class sometimes when I was younger. Luckily, I had some friends teaching me some pen spinning tricks to pass the time. I don't believe these tricks are useful in themselves but when I discovered what you could do with a bicycle deck, I knew I hadn't been practicing in vain...

I was a bit angry not to have discovered cards before because I spent hours and hours practicing some stuff with my pen. In the end, it is all worthy.

Nowadays, you have contests and Asians are great at it. This Pen Spinning competition has been won by 14-year old Eugene Wong, crowned Hong Kong's 2010 pen spinning champ. Have a look !

This article is not about magic in itself but it is a great example of taking something simple to a whole new level (that's the magic part actually).

The Razor Blades Trick
