Nikon Uses Magic To Buzz

The Brief for the Nikon Video Festival :

Capture the essence of your day in a video of 140 seconds or less. It can be funny, touching or profound. It can be about everything you did, everything you didn’t do, the day’s biggest dilemma or its most telling detail.

As usual Cards and Cardistry have taken a bigger part in our lives, it is now present in many commercials and in many contest to symbolize art and mystery. Samsung has done it really well and I suspect there is a magician in their marketing team. Good choice ! You can see the previous commercial here (the magic box) and here (XCM for the Omnia HD phone).

I had posted something about Apollo Robbins a while ago here but I wanted to put some more since it is so amazing. Moreover, my magician friend, Julian Varas posted something about him on his facebook that really stunned me.
I love Apollo Robbins' tricks and ease to interact with people and the audience. Great technique !

Google Goggles And Other Tricks

Google travaille sur son projet de Réalité Augmentée et une appli est déjà disponible sur le market pour ceux qui ont la chance d'avoir un téléphone Androïd : elle s'appelle Google Goggles.

Je vous laisse regarder ce qu'elle arrive à faire et les futures possibilités qui sont ouvertes à cette nouvelle technologie. La Réalité Augmentée sera-t-elle l'innovation qui se verra être commercialiser tout au long de l'année 2010 ? En tout cas, Google est déjà sur le terrain ...

Et pour vraiment savoir tout ce que fait Google en ce moment voici la Real Time Search mais je trouve surtout que la musique fait très Harry Potter et est très féérique.

Sinon il y a aussi Google Wave, le service mail revu et corrigé par Google en fonction des attentes d'aujourd'hui :




Et pour finir, l'histoire magique des 10 ans d'existence du petit moteur de recherche qui a balayé tous les vieux que vous utilisiez avant comme Altavista, Lycos, Voila, Yahoo ou Hotbot. Arf ! Ca nous rajeunit pas tout ça :-p

Magic Tuesday : Vintage Trick #12 One Handed !

As usual, it is Magic Tuesday and you can come join us at The Cariatides to have a drink and enjoy some magic tricks. Looking forward to seeing you ;-)

I told you last week I will dedicate this Tuesday to René Lavand that gave a lecture at the Magic Convention so here it is.

Héctor René Lavandera usually known as René Lavand is born in Buenos Aires in 1928. René is a magician from Argentina specialising in close-up performance. After losing a hand at the age of 9 in a car crash, Lavand endured a gradual entry into the magic world, self-taught because, in his own words, all books and techniques are for two-handed magicians. After working as a cashier in a bank, at the age of 32 he appeared in Buenos Aires' Tabarís Theater, following which his career took off, leading to world tours.
In between international tours, he resides in Tandil, Argentina and has adapted a train wagon which he turned into a magic saloon where he teaches illusion.



The catchphrase he uses to close several of his tricks is "No se puede hacer más lento" (Spanish for "it can't be done any slower"), referencing the intentional slow pace at which he performs.

Sells of video games are gonna get crazy this year as last year thanks to all the innovations in this sector. After Nintendo decided to stop waging war on hardware and processors, they have focused on developping a new way of gaming open to everyone : girls, elderly, musicians, ... and now skaters.
Of course Tony Hawk Skateboarding games were already nice and really targeting skateboarders but it was not democratized as you will see below.

For X-mas, everybody is going to be able to ride in their living room. I don't think you will have the same carpet but the idea is awesome.

Augmented Reality Projections !!!

It's been a while I have been writing about AR (Augmented Reality) because I just love the concept and all the opportunities it brings and we can discover. Marco Tempest already made a crazy AR magic Trick which was great (you can see it here).

As usual people pushes every thing to their barriers to allow other people to invent something new and push it even further.

So if you like Magic, I guess so that is why you are here I believe, if you like projections like these ones or these ones and if you like AR then everything has been put together to perform a new and special type of tricks.

What Happened at The International Magic Convention 2009 ?

In Blackpool took place the International Magic Convention 2009 and here is a video if you are wondering what it is or what you may have missed.
There were famous magicians : Joshua Jay, Daryl, Michael Ammar, Jeff McBride and many others. Maybe you do not know René Lavand yet but I will dedicate next tuesday to his art of Magic. He is amazing ! René Rules !

The Cariatides Show !

Vous êtes les bienvenus ce soir pour nous rejoindre aux Cariatides. Un bar bien cool qui organise tous les mardis une soirée magie entre amis et tous les 1er mardis du mois un spectacle sur scène.
